Acute leukemia is a very serious disease that often results in death. Thanks to stem cell and bone marrow transplants it can also be cured in younger patients. Fungal infections are treated by anti fungal drugs. Whether she responds or not depends on many things and no one knows for sure but her Dr could give you his guess as to prognosis. Humans are tough and can often recover from terrible illnesses. Do not count her out yet. Here is a web page on the various types of acute leukemia.

My sis has cancer ,and the chemo is the roughest part it kills her immune system .my sis had brain ,lung ,breast ,glands in neck age 40 and they gave us 3 months and it's been 8 months .I think they have to have hope for themselves and never give up .They my sissy pushes herself she lays around until day 2 after and no matter how she feels she still remains active even on her worst days.A person with any illness like so must not give up no matter what happens .my prayers to you and yours .

Patients who have acute leukaemia's are more susceptable to infections due to their low immune systems. If they get a fungal infection they get given anti fungal antibiotics, one good one we use on our ward is liposomal amphotericin, which will help fight the infection for them. With any treatment and drug there is always side effects from the treatment but about 90-95% of the patients get over the infection.
