Can my baby's cord blood save a friend?

Can my baby's cord blood save a friend?
I have a friend who was diagnosed about a month ago with biphenotypic acute leukemia, is it possible for me to donate my baby's cord blood when she's born to help treat my friends condition?

Your friend would need to be a blood match for the cord blood . . I also do not believe that there would be enough cord blood available for an adult. The cord blood is good for a baby or child who matches . . but adults have larger bodies and would need more. Cord blood works best for the child or for family members and becomes less useful for others.

You might wish to consider banking the cord blood for your child should he ever need stem cells it would be a perfect match.

If they were a match then you could very well save her life. But if they're not a match, it wouldn't do any good. If it was a match they could transplant it into her, cord blood is full of stem cells, which have the ability to become any kind of cell, and could become healthy blood cells and take over the cancerous ones putting her into remission. Also, even if it is not a match, you should save it anyway, because it could help her eventually, another child, or somebody else.
