Death, Leukemia.?

Death, Leukemia.?
this may sound like a weird question, but what does it feel like to die from leukemia. My friend has AML, and is not improving and i just wondered what he is going through. I personally had AML, and was diagnosed before him, but I made a full recovery and obviously he isn't. so please be serious, i need to know the answer. you can list websites if you know any. THANKS
Thanks for the answers. I just want everyone to know, that I am familiar with what this disease does to the body, just not during the death part. I have gone through this myself, and have gotten pretty bad. my blood pressure was down to 40/20 at one point and I sent to the ICU for a while, so I understand the disease part of it. I just was to know what to expect during these next couple of weeks. Thanks!

I have mixed feelings about telling you. On one hand you show a genuine interest in understanding the experience your friend is going through--but on the other, it is not a pleasant way to die (as if any way would be).

The leukemia will sap all his strength, slowly at first but much quicker in the last couple of weeks. He will loose control over his muscles as they waste away especially the ones that control bodily function. He may need a urinary catherter and possibly diapers. He will not be able to eat solid food and will be fed through a gastric tube. Oddly, he may not feel a lot of pain. In the last few weeks his organs will fail-liver, kidneys, etc. and then his lungs (the diaphram is a muscle that helps with breathing). He may or may not lose his ability to think and reason. Leukemia is a blood disease that affects all the systems of the body so those systems will fail.
Since the blood cells and the ability to make new blood cells are damaged, oxygen and nutrients are deprived-white cells are abnormal and can not fight the disease. It is a wasting disease.
As you are his friend---be strong for him, be there for him and don't let him loose track of what he is---One Of Gods Special Children.

He will probably die of an infection. A lot of cancer patients die of pneumonia, or sepsis, which just means infection will take over his bloodstream and he will probably die in his sleep. He won't be aware a lot in the end, but he will wake up from time to time. He will lose weight, be pale and cold. Don't be scared. It's just how the body lets go. Every person is different, if you really want to know what he's going through, ask. It'll mean a lot that you care.
