My mom has Chronic Lymphocitic Leukemia. Chronic means it probably won't kill you, or at least you can live a good amount of years with it. Acute is more serious, meaning death is more imminent.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. The disease is acutally called Adult Acute Lymphocytic (or Lymphoblastic) Leukemia or "ALL", it is a cancer that affects white blood cells. "ALL" is usually a childhood disease with a high cure rate. Adults make up about 20% of "ALL" cases but they do not do as well as kids. In adults, oncologists aim for "remission" rather than "cure". The treatment can be tough but remission rates are high. The question is, how long can your friend stay in remission. You're probably aware that survival years can be short. Some studies show that younger adults, like your friend, have longer remission rates. After achieiving remission, she will require future treatments to prevent relapse. She may need to enter a clinical trial. It all depends on her outcome. She should go to a renowned cancer center. I hope this helped, if not, be sure to post specific questions and I'll look out for them...

"ALL" is most common in children, but not completely uncommon in adults. the survival rate for children is greater than that of the adult population. Depending on how advanced the cancer is will determine what the odds are for your friend. unfortunately there is not much that she can do other than follow the advice of her doctors, there are many different types of chemotherapy's some homeopathic therapy's that she could research. the best thing that you can do as a friend is just let her know that you will be there for her, stay by her side, I'm not going to sugar coat things, it will be hard at times to see some of the things that she will go through but now you have to be strong for two. keep your head up, and remember that there is a greater reason for all of this.
