how do doctors diagnose leukemia?
its basically a three part question:
1. how is it diagnosed?
2. most common treatment?
3. (most importantly) after your first few treatments, how do doctors check if you still have it or if its gone?
thanks. kudos to anyone who can answer this :)
so how many treatments would a teenager with acute leukemia need before results are seen?

there are different types of leukemia
but this is what i know about t-cell all
1. blood test ,spinal tap and bone marrow test
2. chemo therapy and radiation
3. spinal taps and bone marrow test ( its not a few treatments )
edit : depends on how well you react to chemo , everyone is different. 2-3 years is how long the entire treatment is . but all of it is not intense the first 6 months is really hard. but 6 months is assuming you do not have compilations .

1. How is it diagnosed? Examination of the peripheral blood smear and a bone marrow aspiration under a microscope by a pathologist and the hematology / oncology specialist. We can actually see the malignant cells under the microscope.
2. Most common treatment? Intravenous chemotherapy regimens depending on the type of leukemia - myelogenous or lymphocytic - and there are many types of both.
3. (most importantly) after your first few treatments, how do doctors check if you still have it or if its gone? By checking CBC's (complete blood counts) and sometimes repeat bone marrow examinations
So how many treatments would a teenager with acute leukemia need before results are seen? Usually we see results - dropping leukemic blast cell counts - in a matter of days after the first round of combination chemotherapy
