how do you explain Leukemia simply?
Hi! I am doing a school project and have to find out what Leukemia is. I've read many web pages about it, but i still can't seem to understand what it is.
It does concern white blood cells and if im not wrong, it also is because the bone marrow produces too many leukocytes.
But i still don't get the connection between the whole picture of having Leukemia and how it can affect our body. ( and what does 'lymphocytic' or 'myelogenous' mean?)
So could someone mind explaining this? Thanks.
And by the way, do any of you know of any popular people who have had Leukemia? I've heard Roald Dahl had it. But i dont know if it's true.

Leukemia is just a disease of the blood and bone marrow essentially. Your bone marrow does not produce the correct amount of red and white blood cells and it can cause you to become anemic, bruise easily, become very tired and very susceptable to other sicknessess around you. If left untreated and you catch a cold that turns into pnemonia, you can very easily die from it, because your immune system is shot down to nothing. There are many types of leukemia too, there are: aml, apml, all and alot more, what kind you have is the difference in treatment and length. It is complicated if you don't live in the world of cancer.

AML. That's the kind of Leukemia I had. Leukemia is really abnormal white blood cells killing off all your normal white blood cells so if it runs it's course a cough could kill you.
