Is leukemia deadly for a 14 almost 15 year old?
Does anyone know any basic facts about leukemia.
Thanks x

Can be cured. can kill. At all ages.
Bit like life itself.

There are different types of leukeima, with different survival prospects.
The most commen type in younger people is ALL. Surival rates for young people are better then 50/50 these days. But still not quite to the level of lymphoma. AML is a more deadle leukeima, but at your age even that is beatable. Chronic Leukeimas are more commen in older people. When young people do get, survival rates are very good though.

Leukemia can be deadly for anyone regardless of age. The most basic fact you should know is that it is a disease of the bone marrow and there are several diseases which fall into this category making this one of the few blanket statements that can be made and it is a class of cancer most frequently diagnosed in children. About 80% are ALL, 15% are AML and 5% are CML. The 5 year survival rate for ALL is 70-85%, AML is 50%, the median survival for CML ranges between 3.5 years up to 8 years.

It can be, I'm sure, regardless of age, but that doesn't mean it always is by any means. A friend of mine was diagnosed with leukemia when she was about that age, by the time they noticed it had gotten into her lungs and bones. She's about 30 now, cancer free for over a decade, her and her husband just had their first kid a few months ago.
