What can we do for our very sick dog with leukemia?
My daughter has a Heeler/Pit which is only 2 years old and he was diagnosed with Leukemia earlier this year so I went out and bought her a purebread Heeler pup and would'nt you know..the sick dog got better and the vet said he was very healthy and his blood test came back clear. Now all of a sudden he got real sick very fast, won't eat, looses his bladder and is mucus coming from his nose, after a moment he comes out of it.

You didn't mention what sort of treatments the first dog had to "cure" his leukemia, but the results don't sound typical. Consider a second opinion from another vet (preferably one board certified in canine medicine) and if the vet still insists it is leukemia, ask them to consult or refer you to a local veterinary oncologist. If there isn't one in the area you can visit, ask your vet to consult one.

We went this route with a cat who had a tumor they thought was cancer. After treatment and consulting, we had to put him to sleep due to his severe illness and low quality of life. We asked for an autopsy, which found that he did not have cancer at all, but FIP, a virus that affects cats but does not normally present the way it did in our cat. We are still feeling the loss of our cat, but glad we requested the autopsy and found the true cause of the problem, because it allowed us to feel comfortable we had made the right choice in putting him to sleep (FIP is almost always fatal) and to protect the other cats from the virus.

The symptoms you describe are very concerning, particularly since you say they come on suddenly, then clear up suddenly. Please have another veterinary consult to determine what is going on. A simple blood test can rule out leukemia, but some of the symptoms you describe can be explained by canine malignant lymphoma, among other diseases. For the sake of both dogs, please get a second opinion and work with an appropriate specialist to determine the true problem and how it should be treated.

Good luck, I hope they find the problem and help him feel better.

There's a book that may give you some help, because it has references to caring for unhealthy pets and how to alter their diet to improve the condition of failing organs, etc...

 Caring for Your Aging Dog
 by Janice Borzendowski

and I would also suggest these two resources:

The Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook by James M. Giffin

the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association
 www.ahvma.org

Not much, but you might find something through those sources to help.

I personally feel that a lot of Leukemia and cancer in general in pets comes from their diet. The preservatives, colorings and poor quality of protein in pet food (literally waste swept up off the slaughterhouse floor in many instances) leads to all sorts of diseases. The first book I mentioned talks alot about where and what is good pet food...
Leukemia — Comprehensive overview covers symptoms, causes, risk factors, treatment of this blood-related cancer.
