What is the survival rate of an adult with AML (leukemia)?

What is the survival rate of an adult with AML (leukemia)?
My father in law was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with AML. He underwent immediate chemo therapy, two days ago he had a heart attack (just found out about the heart attack today) the chemo did not work. The doctors are going to change the medication and see if anything will work the second time. Is it possible for him to recover? If anyone has any experience or knowledge I'd greatly appreciate any advice or info. My hubby and I live in WA and my father in law lives in NY so sometimes we are unable to get info for a few days. Thank you.
My FIL is 50, does this have any effect good or bad?

Sadly enuff to tell you from personal experiences from what I've been thru, cancer itself is a silent killer, and it can proglong your life if you go thru the treatments, or aka Radiation therapy..Not quite the same but my dad had lung cancer last Oct, my grandpa had lung cancer. My mom just recently died of Renal Carisonmia cancer..
SO I'd say that if he goes thru all the cancer treatments, its prolonging his life and he could get better hes still young.. my mom was only 57 so sadly enuff death dont have an age limit..
