ok
as u might know leukaemia is cancer of the blood cells(haematopoietic stem cells)
depending on the type of leukaemia(i.e. myeloid or lymphocytic) there are different blood cells which r affected. the bone marrow/blood will become infiltrated with immature blood cells causing the haulting of normal maturation of blood cells.
so a person with leukaemia tends to die from either
infection( low white blood cell count)
blood clots ( blood cells tend to stick together)
bleeding (low platelet count).

There have been advances in medicine that did not exist just a few short years ago.
