Can a puppy get feline leukemia from eating out of a dish that a cat with the virus eats out of?

Can a puppy get feline leukemia from eating out of a dish that a cat with the virus eats out of?
We are thinking about getting a puppy but we have four inside cats with the feline leukemia virus, so far three of the cats are not showing any syptoms of the disease, but the fourth cat is showing syptoms of the disease, so it will only be a matter of time for the cat, but she is about 6yrs and made it this far. I am concern that the puppy also might stress the cats and bring on the syptoms of the disease with the other cats. I heard stress brings on the disease. I need a answer soon, my husband wants the puppy but I am concern about the cats and the puppy getting the virus. The puppy is a male pomerian and about 8 weeks old.

Leukemia is blood cancer. Cancer isn't contagious. At all. It a cellular growth.

Here's a hint - FELINE leukemia.

As for the pup stressing the cats out, that's a given. Whether or not that stress will be sufficient to trigger symptoms is hard to say. If you handle the introductions properly by keeping the pup quarantined and then VERY gradually introducing him to the cats one at a time, you can minimize trauma to everyone involved, but any kind of change brings some amount of stress.

@joshi - actually, feline leukemia isn't a cancer at all, it's a retrovirus that is most certainly contagious.

Feline Leukemia is not transmissable to dogs...or humans. It is a virus that only cats can get. They spread it through their saliva, so infected cats pass it on by biting, grooming, sharing dishes etc.. But only to other cats. Mom cats also pass it on to their kittens. The virus weakens the immune system, making the cat vulnerable to other infections and illnesses. Some cats will live with the virus for years, others will get sick sooner. You should not bring any other cats into your house, and you should not permit your cats to go outdoors where they can infect the the general population of outdoor cats.
As for the new puppy being a source of stress - sure could be, but whether or not its enough to aggravate the disease I'm not certain. Perhaps your Vet could fill you in better.

Cat disease. It doesn't transfer to any other species.
