Chances my cat can get feline leukemia?

Chances my cat can get feline leukemia?
My cat is a healthy four year old, but my possible soon to be roommate has a cat that has feline leukemia. I know it's contagious, but if I get my cat vaccinated what are the chances that she'll get infected? Also, what is the life expectancy for a cat with feline leukemia?

- BiPetual
You can get your cat vaccinated, and have it tested for antibodies to be sure it's working. A feline veterinary practitioner told me that ONE study done in New York showed that the transmission rate among cats who live together (over a year old) was less than 10%. That said, I don't think I would do it unless your roommate is okay with keeping them separated.

The life expectancy varies. Some cats can live with it for years, but others aren't so lucky.

- WakeUp
Check with your veterinarian. It is contagious so your vet may recommend keeping them apart or in low stress situations since bites are one of the main forms of transmission between cohabitating cats.
