How long after you get diagnosed with Leukemia do they start kimo?
I'm writing a story and I need it to be realistic...

It completely depends on the type of leukemia present. If it's a chronic leukemia treatment may not begin at all at the time of diagnosis. Since the chronic leukemias are so slow to progress, they often are detected through routine blood tests even though there are no symptoms present. Treatment will begin when symptoms start to appear and become a problem.
However, the acute leukemias are treated as medical emergencies. Treatment must begin within 48 hours of diagnosis. My son started to show symptoms (which turned out to be secondary AML leukemia) in early December of last year. He was diagnosed on December 19th and began chemotherapy within 36 hours.
I hope this helps you out some. If you have any more questions or anything, I've had a lot of experience in the field with my son over the last almost 3 years. Feel free to email me (crazycanuckj@yahoo.ca) or IM me (crazycanuckj).
