How long is the hospitalization for leukemia patients?
A child (3 yrs old) was diagnosed with ALL, I am pretty sure that they are going to start him on chemo ASAP. How long is he going to be hospitalized or can he be treated as an outpatient?

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) tends to be treated as an outpatient but the induction phase could see your child in hospital for around two weeks. This depends on each child and how sensitive they are to the chemotherapy.

You're an impatient as soon as they get their hands on you. I survived AML Leukemia twice. I know what's it's like and I was hospitalized for the first tangle with cancer about 1 year. I lost alot of my childhood. Sometimes I get people saying that when a person passes away that I'm emotionally hard. Their right. I've seen two of my very good friends become weaker and weaker until they lost their will and give up and died. I cried. Now that I'm hard I haven't cried since 2004. I hope this little child doesn't loose as much as I did. She/He is in my prayers.

My daughter is 2 and has ALL. When she got diagnosed she was in the hospital for a month. Then went home and went through the clinic for her chemo. She has been in and out of the hospital since for fevers, some chemos, ect.

My niece was diagnosed with high risk pre B A.L.L. at the age of 2. She has to have a total of 2 1/2 to 3 years of chemo They started her on chemo asap and i do not remember all the details but she was in the hospital for a few weeks after she was first diagnosed. She had to go back to the hospital at regular intervals to receive inpatient chemo. Then she was sent home with lots of medicines, oral chemo and steroids to take on the days she was not in the hospital.
A little over a year after her diagnosis, she started what is known as 'maintenance chemo'. This chemo is easier to tolerate and she only has to go to the hospital every month for outpatient chemo (injected in the spine) and then takes low oral doses of it at home as well. Most people start to feel better while on maintenance chemo and their hair starts to grow back.

I stayed in the hospital 5-7 days after a round of chemo, the nausea was so bad that my mother couldn't take care of me herself. The worst thing is that chemo made me ravenously hungry, but I couldn't eat because I wouldn't keep it down, and to this day the smell of rubbing alcohol makes me want to vomit.
