Is this really leukemia? Should I be worried?

Is this really leukemia? Should I be worried?
My friend has been tired lately and had a regular blood test done. The results showed abnormal low white blood cells. So more testing was done with bone marrow sampling and PET Scan. It's most likely a form of leukemia. They have not had full diagnosis back but already scheduling chemotherapy. Could low white cells be the result of something else?

Sometimes the cause of a low white blood cell count can't be determined (idiopathic). Known causes of a low white blood cell count (leukopenia) include:

Infections, such as viral infections and HIV
Autoimmune disorders, such as lupus
Certain medications, especially those used in chemotherapy and some antibiotics
Radiation therapy
Bone marrow disease, such as leukemia or myelodysplastic syndromes
