What music would you include on a funeral ride?
A friend's mother's death from leukemia is imminent. My friend and her brother mentioned that they will have to be transporting their mother's body after she dies at home, and they are planning to play "Highway to Hell" on the car cd player while they're transporting their mother's body.
After we roared with laughter about this, (sometimes, in an 8 month dying process, you just have to laugh) I said, "No No, Mozart's Requiem." At which point, brother and sister announced that that was my job, to make a CD of music for their 20+ minute car trip with mom.
What would you include on this CD? Suggestions from all genres of music welcome.
Thanks for your thoughtful replies.

Sorry to head about this..
I would defintely say, Apocalyptica. They are classical/metal. - The most suitable album would probably be Cult. Well this is my suggestion, but good luck on any other music!

Josh Groban to where you are is a very touching song when death has occurred

When my partner's dad died, we already had everything planned. We knew he was going soon for almost a year.
He was in love with Polka music (hey, give him a break, he was an old german guy)... So, we found quite a bit of his old favorites and put them together to play during the funeral and the viewing of the body.
It's important in these times to pick songs which will remind you of the person that you have lost.
Josh Grobin's "Eagles wings" work really well in this situation, very melodic. Even if she wasn't particularly religious, it is still a good song for this purpous.
For those who are religious, "I'll fly away", "Amazing grace". These are musts.
"tears in heaven", and "one sweet day" are also great songs that invoke love and memory.
Since it is for a friends mother, the song "a song for momma" by boys to men would also fit.
Then, I know some people are going to laugh, but, I don't care. Michael Jackson did a song called "Gone Too Soon", I believe it was on the dangerous album, but I'm not sure. This is a song the he wrote for someone who died of cancer.
If she was into opera, or musicals or anything like that. "Bring him home" from Les Miserables is a particularly moving song.
"The long ride home", by, patty Griffin is an awesome song too, about a woman riding home from her husband's funeral.
I do not recommend "Another one bites the dust" unless you just need some comical relief.
Much love to you and yours.

Try listening to The Great Below or The Day The World Went Away by nine inch nails on the fragile album. Both these songs talk about death in a profoundly beautiful way.On second thought, playing The Fragile itself would be a good idea-dark but strangely soothing.
