Can a Complete Blood Count (CBC) determine Leukemia or Lymphoma?
Just as the question asks. Can a Complete Blood Count determine Leukemia, Lymphoma, or other things such as Diabetes? Can anyone also say what other things this can show? Thanks.

a CBC won't confirm diabetes i know that much, you do a special glucose test for that one.
I'm pretty sure different tests are done for the other two aswell.
generally a cbc shows your cholesterol, iron, calcium, etc levels.

The other person is somewhat correct. A CBC indicates what your red blood cell levels are, how much hemoglobin you have, platelet levels, and what different white blood cell levels are. This particular blood test *may* indicate leukemia, your doctor uses this data in addition to other data to determine whether you have leukemia for certain or not. In other words, we want to make certain that if it walks, talks, flaps, and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.
CBC does not test for lymphoma or diabetes. Lymphoma requires a tissue sample (biopsy) and placed under a microscope to determine what the cells look like. Diabetes requires testing of your blood sugar level which falls under chem panel testing, not CBC. Chem panel tests for levels produced by your liver, pancreas, kidneys, and so forth to see whether they're working within normal range. It's typically ordered along with CBC.

My 2 year old daughter has Leukemia. We had no idea she had it. We took her to the emergency room because she wasnt feeling good and had a high fever. They did a CBC, and thats how we found out she had leukemia.
