CML form of leukemia!?
Okay for novel i am writing their is a 6 year old gilr that is diagnosed with CML a rare type of leukemia that usually is found in adults but it can be genetic, and in the book the grandma had it so can the little girlget it? Because thats genentic and how long does it take for a child to get rid of it? and can it come back to a child?
- Denisedds
CML is genetic as it occurs when part of chromosome 9 switches places with a part of chromosome 22, but this would have nothing to do with her grandmother.
Do you mean hereditary? CML is not hereditary and very rare in children only about 3% occur in children.
Prognosis and treatment of childhood CML depends on how long it's been since diagnosis and how many blasts there are.
Awe Spreedog you just might make me blush and believe me that is not easy to do.

"Denisedd" is professionally correct as usual. She has data that you can believe. As a hematologist/oncologist physician, an occasional author, and a book reader, I would not believe this plot. CML would not be at all likely in a 6 year old person - possible - but very rare. It would not be passed from the grandmother as far as I know. There are genetic defects associated with all types of leukemia - acute and chronic, myelocytic and lymphocytic - but these are usually not inherited. It is not like the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes for breast cancers. I am not aware of clustering in families, but "Denisedd" would know if anyone.

Could your story work with another type of leukemia?
Could you omit the 'inherited from grandma' part?
Just some ideas. Good luck. Writing is HARD work.
