Does my cat have feline Leukemia?
This is the second post , I have written in regards to my cat. I came home and found my cat's face in an empty, dirty bowel that had been there for months. She was lifeless, had droopy eyes and very unresponsive. I took her to the vet and they were concerned that she had Feline Leukemia or FIP. I couldn't afford to get her tested, but I was able to afford the fluids they gave her and two antibiotics. They told me she probably wouldn't make it through the night and should consider putting her down the next day. The next day, after the antibiotics from the vet wore off, I had some left over Clavomax {a bacteria killer} that I started giving her. I have also been feeding her baby food through a syringe. Its been 4 days now and just two days ago, she has been jumping off the bed and just today she went into the kitchen and ate food all on her own. She also went to the front door and wanted to go outside. She is still NOT well, but I have seen major improvements, but she still walks very slowly. My question is, if a cat has Feline Leukemia, would she turn around like that and go into the kitchen and start eating, showing signs of an appetite? Feline Leukemia clearly states a cat has NO appetite, so I just dont know what to think. Has anyone gone through this and might know something? Thank you in advance

There is absolutely no way to know if your cat has Feline Leukemia without a blood test. An in-house SNAP test should be far cheaper than the treatment you already had (fluids and antibiotics). It should be under $ 20.
All that's different about a leukemia positive cat is that they have a weaker immune system and are more susceptible to various illnessess. It doesn't necessarily mean they're going to suddenly get sick and die (or that they'll get sick and die gradually). They can show all sorts of different symptoms, rather than one specific set of symptoms.
Be glad your cat seems to be getting better, but if you want to know if she has leukemia, you need the blood test. Oh, and don't give any expired antibiotics (especially Clavamox liquid) to your cat.

Feline leukemia is an auto-immune disease. It is not necessarily a condition where the cat get worse than dies. A cat can get sick on and off for years with the disease. Medicine and what immune responses the cat has left will fight off ailments.
She may have a healthy immune system and fought off a really bad bug or she may have a terminal illness. Knowing her health can give her a longer and healthier life. I would definitely call around and see where you can get a low cost feline leukemia test. Her going going outside can cause her to spread disease to other cats.
