My one yr. old daughter SICK Leukemia/or infection?

My one yr. old daughter SICK Leukemia/or infection?
My one yr. old daughter? High white blood cells? Leukemia/infection? Help?
My daughter has had an ear infection off and on for two months now. She has had 5 antibiotics for this.
I brought her to the dr. today, and she still has an ear infection in both ears. She had a blood test, and it showed that she has an extremely high white blood cell count.
normal is 12,000, my daughter's is 18,000. Dr. said, that it means there is an infection somewhere.
Blood tests were done, because Dr.s said there could be an infection in her blood.
My question is? I looked up high white blood cell counts, and leukemia, and infection came up, when I looked up high white blood cells in children, leukemia comes up, w/ syptoms, including: Red eyes, abrnormal sleeping, as in restlesness/or drowsiness, well my daughter is staying up! I have been up for almost 72 hrs. I have my godmother over to help, because I need some sleep.
My daughter had a 106 fever last night. Urgent care, told me that if her fever reaches 103 tonight, to bring her straight to the hospital.
So..... is htis leukemia, please tell me it's not.
It could just be an infection from the ear right? I don't even know what to do i am so lost right now.
I thought she had pink eye, i asked the dr, she said, well it could be, and then did the blood test, and found the high white cell count, which they said is very high, extremely high, as they put it.
I'm a single mom, live on my own, my family is two hours away, and I begged my mom to come up, I have been hysterical, she won't come up, because her friend is putting his dad in the nursing home tomorrow, and she is going with. Her priorities are all screwed up, or am I being selfish? I am so lost!
The test was today! The results are NOT back from lab until tomorrow MORNING!

I don't have any experience with this so I wouldn't be able to help you out with the cause. But I don't think you are being selfish at all. This is very tramatic. My child had a fever of 102 and I was a wreck! Your mom should be more supportive and realize that family comes before friends. She should be ashamed of herself. Anyway, I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers. Hope all goes well.

Your not being selfish but you are panicking when there is probably no good reason. I went thru this with my son when he was 12, he missed a month of school and I nearly went crazy. The doctor kept saying it was an infection but he was on several different antibiotics and he was still feverish & kind of grey colored. Eventually he just got better.

I think if the Doctor suspected Leukaemia he would have referred you immediately to an oncologist. Trust him, he has seen 1000's of kids.

When you are facing something as severe as this you are deff. not being selfish! You're just being a concerned mother and that's perfectly fine!!!! I think if anything goes wrong or something else bad happens deff. go to the hospitol. from what you've said, the doctor has done nothing and your daughter could be in a big problem. Good luck!!!!!!!!

Its is a infection! When the Doctor does a blood test, they do a white cell count and that includes a white cell differential, because you have five blood cells that make up the total white cell count. At the Laboratory they would have noted the HIGH 18,000 white cell count and looked further, just to see if they located any 'atypical' or abnormal cells, which would then mean cancer. Once they had found them they would have notified your Doctor straight away. However they did not so it is some form of infection. Having said that high white cell counts can be due to exercise, stress, inflammation, the list is endless. I would not say 18,000 is high, as mine ticks around at 18,000 but then I have a autoimmune condition so my immune system is always hyperactive. However when it hit 25,000 and I showed some abnormal cells, they did a bone marrow to figure out what was going on. It can go higher than 25,000! Best of Luck
PS here are the figures for normal white cell counts:
Adults: 4.5-11 × 103 cells/mm3 so over 11,000 would be high.
Infants, 6 months to 2 years: 6-17.5 × 103 cells/microL so over 17,500 would be high and you have 18,000.
Different for Children and Adults!
