What diseases should a new cat coming into an established cattery be tested for?
I have established a small cattery, a couple of kittens from the same breeder now i want to bring in another from a different breeder. My vet said my kittens were disease free and did not require the cat flu vacine.
Should I give it to them now i am getting another from a different breeder ad what other diseases should I test the new cat for before introducing her.

all kittens there should be up to date with their vaccinations, you should test for feline leukemia and FIV on every kitten that comes in and make sure they are up to date on their vaccinations as well.

I would isolate them as you would any other cat. Find out what shots were given, what tests were performed (and the written results). If everyone is vaccinated then there is no need to revaccinate.
Just isolate for a week or so to make sure their is no upper respiratory or worms, etc.

I would test them for FIV, leukemia and FIP(feline infectious peritonitis).
I would NEVER vaccinate any cat against FIV. If your kitties are neg
for FIV and you vaccinate them against it, they will always test positive. If you were to sell them or they escape and someone tests them, the test will be positive no matter if they have the disease or not.
FIP is highly contagious expecially among kittens. there is a wet form and a dry form and most often they get the wet form. It makes their little bellies swell and become hard b/c fluid is accumulating in the abdomen and all surrounding organs eventually infiltrating the lungs and suffocating it. There is no cure and other cats/kittens that have been exposed have a great chance of contracting it. They automatically have to be euthanized. So, in short, a very important test also!
Good luck with your cattery :o)
