What is the average 5 year survival rate for myxofibrosarcoma?

What is the average 5 year survival rate for myxofibrosarcoma?
I was diagnosed with A.L.L. (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) in September of 2005 and have been in remission for about 4 years now. A few months ago, my mother was diagnosed with myxofibrosarcoma. She underwent radiation therapy and had the tumor removed; but apparently myxofibrosarcoma comes back fairly frequently. I've looked all over the internet, but I can't find an accurate 5 year prognosis. Please, if anyone has any information on this disease, answer this question. Also, if you can include the rates for the differing grades of this cancer, please do so. Thank you very deeply for your help to all who answer this question respectfully.

The high rate of local recurrence in myxofibrosarcoma is possibly associated with its infiltrative nature.

It has been reported that myxofibrosarcoma tends to become progressively higher grade in recurrences. The higher-grade neoplasms may then metastasize. After myxofibrosarcoma is diagnosed in biopsy specimens, a careful radiological examination to determine the tumor extension prior to surgical resection is mandatory considering the infiltrative growth nature. An adequate wide surgical margin should be recommended even for a low-grade or intermediate-grade myxofibrosarcoma to prevent a local recurrence.

Hope this helps. Check with your physician on any medical advice given.

The reason why you cannot find the 5 year survival rate about myxofibrosarcoma is that it is variable and hard to predict. The best experience and most publications about this cancer comes from Memorial Sloan-Kettering cancer center. They came up with a Chart that allows physicians to come up with score that can predict the 12 year survival based on multiple factors. This chart includes size of the tumor, Depth, Site, Histology (the type of tissue), the Age of the patient and the Grade of the tumor.
In general, Sarcoma survival depends a lot on the site where it started and the size of the tumor. Usually if it started in the Extremities or the trunk it has the best survival rate with treatment while the "Retroperitoneal" site (meaning in the abdomen behind the the guts and organs (outside the peritoneum)) have the worst prognosis.

One reason you may have difficulty looking up this subtype of sarcoma is that it is no longer called myxofibrosarcoma . . . the current name for the disease is malignant fibrous histiocytoma or MFH (myxoid variant). There are support groups for sarcoma including this rare type and they would be better prepared to answer any and all questions:

ACOR:The General Sarcoma (Cancer) Online Support Group

Incidentally you will find that most cancer patients ignore statistical information as irrelevant . . because cancer is an individual disease and statistics do not account for the individuals response to treatment or other factors.
