AML (acute myeloid leukemia) cancer, survival stastics.?
can someone tell me how dangerous is AML cancer if a teenager was diagnosed with it....approximately how long does he have to live and what is the chance that he will be cured entirely?

Five-year survival varies from 15–70%, and relapse rate varies from 78–33%, depending on subtype. AML is treated initially with chemotherapy aimed at inducing a remission; patients may go on to receive additional chemotherapy or a hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Recent research into the genetics of AML has resulted in the availability of tests that can predict which drug or drugs may work best for a particular patient, as well as how long that patient is likely to survive.

70% to 80% of acute myelogenous leukemia patients experience complete remission. In total, about 20% to 30% of patients survive and are free of AML 5 years after the diagnosis and treatment.. AML patients who have not had a relapse during this time are considered completely cured, because most relapses happen within 2 years of the AML diagnosis.

Acute myelogenous leukemia patients who are under 60 years of age have a better chance of survival than those patients that are older. This is due to many factors including being able to stand the strong chemotherapy medicines that are used to treat AML. With no treatment, AML leukemia patient life expectancy is about 3 to 4 months.

aw im sorry hun i hope this helps: The five-year relative survival rate (the percentage of people who survive at least five years after the cancer is detected, excluding those who die from other diseases) for children with AML is between 50% and 70%. never give up hope and its considered if you go over 5 years without a relapse your considered cured. my friend beat AML and so can he. all cancers are dangerouse but with the right treatment whoever it is can ge through it. hope it goes good hun
