Can a vaccinated cat still catch feline leukemia?

Can a vaccinated cat still catch feline leukemia?
I have 2 cats that are vaccinated against feline leukemia. If I adopt a feline leukemia positive cat, can my current cats still catch it?

- BritishVet
its not likely though it has happened

No they will not. they are immune to it

I am pretty sure they can't but you never know there could be the slightest chance that they can but it would be a tiny chance. My neighbors cat has it so we did research to see if our cat could interact with it and we asked a vet and I am pretty sure that it could but it still couldn't go outside since there are cats out there who aren't vaccinated. You should ask your vet to be sure.

Actually they can, I asked my vet about this last week, we have a positive FeLV cat hanging around our house. As long as there is no physical contact through feces, sweat, salive (ie shared food, litterbox), scratching or biting. ANY body fluids, even though your cat may be immunised. Immunisation is a help, not a guarantee. It is only 80 to 85% effective at protecting cats from FeLV.
The only sure way to protect cats is to prevent exposure to FeLV-infected cats.

Yes, they can. The FeLV vaccine is estimated to be at best 80% effective. That means that your cats would have a fairly good chance of catching it, as it's very easily transmitted through normal contact. Sharing of food dishes, grooming - those are just two ways that the virus can be spread.
