Does Chemo make you sterile?
My friend is starting Chemo next week for hairy cell leukemia. He is only 27, will he be able to have children after going through Chemo?

There is a chance that the chemotherapy will cause infertility depending on the type of drug, dosage, and length of treatment. He can protect his future fertility by banking sperm before he starts his treatment.

Hi. There is a likelihood of being sterile or infertile, if you are exposed to radiation(especially guys). This is because the cancer cells tend to be hiding in the testis and so when radiation is passed through, it kills the healthy cells. This results in the testis inability to produce sperms. Even though they produce, it wont be so healthy as it was before treatment. It is better to bank the sperms, in case, your boyfriend becomes sterile.

If he is interested in having children in the future he should have some sperm frozen. I think it depends on what kind of cancer and where the radiation is pointed.
