Feline Leukemia (How many times does a cat have the shot!?)?
Okay so my sisters cat just had seven kittens two days ago, but two have alredy died. One was dead when I found her having them on the chair, and then one died today. I was wondering why they died, what could have caused it? This is the first time she's had kittens. Also, another kitten is struggling, is there anything we can do, and does anyone know what could be causing it?
Another question .. about three weeks ago, her sister had kittens as well. They are all doing fine, but I was wondering if those new baby kitties have something contagious, can they get it? My sister had said something about it being maybe Feline Leukemia, and if thats the case, is that contagious? I read only through saliva, and what not?
And one more thing, I have my own cat, but she stays in my room. If it IS feline leukemia or anything else, can she get it? She has no contact with the other cats, except maybe the smell or their hair on me. Plus shes had all her shots, so she'll be ok right?

Your cat should be getting it shots every year. Ask you vet to send you reminders of the shots. This is really important. I had a cat die from this nasty disease. Its was horrible!
I am unsure about the kittens but most likely if the mother has it she has passed it on. It is very contagious to cats. All yours has to do is eat or drink from the same bowl.

I worked at a vet hospital last summer so I have seen a few cases of feline leukemia. For your sisters cats I would recommend that she take them to the vet immediately. If some of the kittens have already died it might mean that the kittens were born with some kind of disease or the mother is not taking care of them properly. So you need to go see a vet to make sure that everything is ok.
Feline leukemia is contagious. It can be transmitted through saliva, tears, feces, urine, etc. And this virus is kind of like HIV in humans where the cats immune system breaks down and they are more susceptible to other kinds of illnesses. There is a blood test that can be performed on the cat to see if they have the virus or were exposed to it so ask the vet when you go.
If your cat has had all her shots she should be fine. But you should probably check with your vet and maybe have a blood test taken from her to find out if she caught anything.
