My girlfriend is 6 months pregnant and they think she has leukemia.?
My girlfriend is 19 years old and is 6 months pregnant. They will be running tests on her next week at John Hopkins Hospital. They think she has leukemia possibly, What could this mean about the baby health and my girlfriends health? Can she get the proper treatment while she is pregnant without hurting her and the baby? I know the doctor will answer all these questions next week if she does have leukemia :( It's stressing me out. Anybody ever experienced this and can share some advice? Advice would be great.

In some cases chemotherapy is given during pregnancy. There is less risk further on in the pregnancy. Deciding to treat while pregnant is done if the cancer needs to be treated immediately and if the risk of harm to the baby is felt to be acceptable. Sometimes the decision may involve waiting until the baby can be safely delivered and then beginning treatments.
Hope everything turns out well.

Some types of Leukemia don't need treatment right away and sometimes at all.Being only 19 it could be Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, which is usually a childhood leukemia and will need chemotherapy. There's also a great chance it's nothing serious and she could be just fine.

I wish you, your girlfriend and future baby goodluck!
