Nose Bleeds, what could be the cause?
I have a 4 yr. old daughter and anytime she barely bumps her nose it begins to bleed. Sometimes she dosent even have to bump it for it to start. I have 3 other children and have never had this problem before it started about 2 months ago. Should I really be concerned? What could be causing this? I saw that frequent nose bleeds could be a sign of leukemia is this true?

As strange as it may sound, it can be her tonsills. I had a younger cousin who did the same, it also bled when she got too warm or excercised. Don't start off thinking the worse, it may just be a sinus issue or something very minor. Good luck.

try puting a humidifier in the room while she's asleep.

A saline nasal spray could help.

There are several causes for the nosebleed including trauma (such as hitting the nose), fracture (broken nose), pressure (such as may be caused by altitude), anticoagulant (anti-clotting) medication, excessively dry air, excessive nose-picking, allergic rhinitis and high blood pressure among the elderly. Some rare diseases that may cause nosebleeds are Wegener's granulomatosis and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT, Rendu-Osler-Weber disease); sarcoidosis, when it involves the nose, has been reported to cause nosebleeds. von Willebrand disease may cause nosebleeds. In some rare cases, the cause of a nosebleed can be cancer of the head and neck or nasal polyps.

Normally, I would say either high blood pressure or the air is too dry - causing her nasal passages to be too dry. If a humidifier doesn't work, talk to her pediatrician.
