Will blood tests always reveal cancer? Leukemia?
if you had Leukemia and had a CBC test would the doctor be able to tell just from the blood work?

Yes and No.
If you had Leukemia your blood work would be abnormal, in most cases severly abnormal. Which would prompt furthur testing, including testing of the bone marrow which would indicated Leukemia.
Many other cancers would not show abnormal bloodwork unless the cancer was far advanced in most cases. Lymphoma will sometimes have abnormal bloodwork in early stages, but ussualy not.

No. The blood test just indicates something may be wrong so further specific testing would be necessary. Sometimes an experienced doctor may feel he 'already knows' . .but this is not the same as obtaining an accurate diagnosis . . blood tests do not 'reveal cancer' . . they just indicate that something seems off . . it might not even be cancer at all but something totally different.

No not JUST from blood work. With many cancers, the white blood cells and or platelets are out of whack. However sometimes, and I know because my partner was just diagnosed and started treatment today! That's right I am in a hospital now....sometimes like my partners case, they have symptoms of anemia only. Her white blood and platelets where normal and her red blood and hemoglobin where low. The Dr said just this past Friday that by her blood work alone you would never know she was sick. They had to take a bone marrow biopsy to diagnose her. Now they can take blood and do what is called a peripheral blood smear and this will show if there are any "blasts" or abnormality in the blood. But these tests alone don't always diagnose. There is a lot more I could go into, but it is all very confusing. And if you are worried that you or someone you know has something wrong the best thing I can tell you is to NOT try to research and diagnose yourself. Understand that many things you read online are not CURRENT. Just wait, do what your Dr asks, and take it day by day. Good luck
