How does a person acquire Leukemia?

How does a person acquire Leukemia?
I know there are kids who can get leukemia shortly after birth (during gestation as well?).
I know of cases where young people are struck with acute Leukemia then die days after diagnosis. Then there are the cases where older people are diagnosed with chronic, may have a period of remission, then the cancer comes back. My dad died from the latter. Where does it even come from?
Also, you know how some people say that you can reverse illenesses with proper diet... I believe that when it comes to hypertension and esacaltion of heart disease... but can a person reverse or supress cancer with a particular diet?

Cancer in general is caused by abnormal cell growth...in terms of numbers or how the cell is structured, depending on the type of cancer.

Leukemia, specifically, has to do with white blood cells.

No one knows what causes one person to get a disease like cancer while someone else does not . . despite all the theories . . only a very few 'risks' associated with cancer go on to 'cause' a person to get that cancer . . for instance . . smoking . . we know that a person is at a higher risk to develop lung cancer if they smoke . . however no one can tell you which smoker will develop lung cancer and which one will never develop lung cancer . .no one can tell you how long a smoker must smoke to develop cancer . . too many unknowns and for every rule there is an exception. such as . . why do non-smokers sometimes develop lung cancer.

No one knows what 'causes' some people to get Leukemia while someone else does not . . and despite the rumors no scientific documented evidence exists that a proper diet will reverse or even prevent cancer. No evidence exists that anyone has 'prevented' cancer or 'cured' cancer by diet alone. What you hear is alot of 'hopeful' wishing . . however, you should know that cancer progression can be 'measured' . . not necessarily with Leukemia, but with solid tumors . . doctors can measure whether a tumor is shrinking or growing using a diagnostic such as a CT. They can tell from month to month whether a treatment is working or not by measuring that tumor. So, it stands to reason that if someone wanted to see if 'diet' worked by reversing their cancer . . all they would need do is record the tumor progression or regression using a CT . . but not one person has been able to do that. So, the evidence does not exist that it works for anyone. Those who challenge this have yet to provide documented scientific evidence that anyone has benefited by diet alone.

It's just random. I got leukemia at age 20, went into remission, had chemo and a bone marrow transplant and luckily have been in remission for 4 years now. Getting leukemia is just bad luck.

I don't know. I'm sure it varies from person to person as to why leukemia strikes them. My sister died at age 33, 3 months after a diagnosis of leukemia. As for her life, my mom told me when my sister was young and she had vaccination shots she got sick from them so she split them up into smaller doses for her. To me that was a sign of possibly a weaker immune system. Around age 18 or so she got mononuleosis and was very sick for 2 years. That probably weakened her system more. Then in the years leading up to her death she had a habit of slathering sunscreen all over her body every day because she felt she had to because her job was outside part of the time. She also developed some mental issues and began taking some drugs for that. It seems to me all of that stuff was very bad and contributed to something going wrong with her system. After she died my mom showed me the bottle of sunscreen and on the bottle this warning: poisonous if taken internally. My God, anything put on your skin is absorbed into your body into your blood. Thus she was probably poisoning herself. If you've got cancer you can't wait around to try to reverse it with diet. More needs to be done quickly. In my own case, I had colon cancer. I changed my diet after I had that cancer to no red meat, no poultry. I strongly believe meat may have been a contributing factor in me getting that cancer. I don't seem able to digest meat very well. For years I had major digestive upsets but never could pinpoint what was the cause. Now I don't have those digestive problems anymore. I think diet can help one stay healthy.
