Leukemia blood test accuracy?

Leukemia blood test accuracy?
My daughter had blood work done. We weren't able to talk to the doctor as we spoke to an assistant and doctor was out of town. The blood work showed positive for Leukemia. She hasn't had her marrow checked. What's the chance the test is wrong?

If your doctor (or the assistant) is confident enough to tell you that it's leukemia, you can pretty much assume they are right. There are things that show up in blood work that are diagnostic of leukemia. The bone marrow simply aids them in diagnosing the exact type.

I'm sorry to hear your news. May you and your daughter find strength in one another as you begin this journey.

Hello:
You can figure that the test are like 99% accurate.
The white cell count tells them that the white cells
are dividing at a huge rate and that she has leukemia
but more test will tell what type of leukemia and how
to treat it as not all leukemia is the same and so there
are so many types of chemo now days. And the
survival rate is better now than when I was DX with it
back in 1977 my doctor back then said I had less than
a year to live. Well he died around 1983 so I would say
he was wrong. I was a test patient for the chemo that was
used to treat the leukemia and it was still in the early
stage. That is a big thing early stage. It is easy er to get
any form of cancer into remission from a early stage but
when it spreads out into every thing else its hard.

Any way if the doctors assistant told you she has leukemia
you can count on it .
But early stage is treatable.

Don't give up.

that was me about 2 weeks ago. i had blood work done & it said possible luekemia & they were right...the bone marrow biopsy just confirmed it. i just got done with my first cycle of chemo & im 18. I'm not sure how old your daughter is, but she'll be OK :)

If they weren't confident in the fact that it was leukemia they would have jsut said there were abnormalities and they needed to do a bone marrow aspiration to be sure of any diagnosis, if they said it's leukemia there is almost a 100% chance it is leukemia, but they will do the bone marrow aspiration as a sort of thing to make sure.
