leukemia??

leukemia??
I'm 15 years old and I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia in september of 2007, I've been going through biological therapy, which hasn't lowered my white blood cell count by much, but I don't want to go through the entire chemo process, because I think it would eventually take a physical and emotional tole on me. Recently, I've been getting serious headaches, my skin is getting really blotchy like it was before I started treatment, and im very tired and dont have any energy. I was wondering what the chances of my leukemia being Acute Lymphatic Leukemia or becoming Acute Lymphatic Leukemia are? (If that is even possible.)

I have an appointment with an oncologist next week tuesday, but I was wondering if anyone else may know..

I am aml, and I dont know a great deal about the treatment of your type, but...

You say you dont want to go through the entire process because you are afraid it will take a toll on you? Do you know most people who have your type are elderly and cant go through it. You are young presumably healthy.

I understand refsing treatment, I have been there. What I want you to think about that, is that if you dont go through all the chemo, your disease will still eventually take a toll on you but instead of being tired and feeling like crap for a few moths, you will be dead.

That being said, to my knowledge that is not possible. What kind of treatment are you going through if you are not doing the chemo? Have you had your labs checked? You may need a transfusion or your chem panel could be off a lil.

Do you have a phone number that you can call to ask questions in between appointments? That would be the best thing for you to do.

Remember, no question is stupid and if it is bothering, it is worth calling to get to your doc to answer the question.

You do know since you are underage you can't refuse treatment by law . I went through treatment when I was 13 years old , yes it was grueling and took an emotional toll on me but was it worth it yes. I had burkitt's lymphoma stage 4 . Do the treatment and if you refuse it but by law you can't you are for lack of better word retarded , Why not do the few months - a year worth of treatment to save your life to live on .. to me this is just depressing to see someone so young not wanna live life and fight the disease and be able to say you were strong enough to defeat it

CLL is not very common in your age group. How was it diagnosed? Were flow cytometry/immunophenotyping and cytogenetics/karyotyping done?

To answer your question, YES, transformation to Acute Leukemia is possible in CLL but your doctor is in the best position to determine this likelihood. It will be based on your current peripheral blood smear and bone marrow biopsy.
