Cancer cluster in your city? What chemicals?

Cancer cluster in your city? What chemicals?
Just curious..seems people here mention clusters in small areas. I want to know more about this. Do you live in such a community that seems to have a higher cancer incidence than most?

Are you near a chemical plant or some type of plant?

Is there a plant near the water source?

Hmmm, wtf is the cause?

To this day, my family believes my mom got leukemia after being exposed to spary paint fumes in the garage. She painted door after door in an un-ventialed garage. We didn't know HOW dangerous this could be...the spray pain cans looked so nice and friendly and easy to use. Who tf ever takes those small print warnings seriously?
so...if warning signs must be taken seriously...then what do we do about all the drugs on the market? They all come with warnings: arthirtis drug good for you -but on the other hand you could get a heart attack! WTF! Sorry I am just sooo mad. People are not educated enough abou the danger.
yes but there are certainly some trends that we can observe. For example, people exposed to radiation (nuclear power plant workers etc..or the ones exposed to Chernobyl's explosion) are at very high risk of getting cancer. Same with asbestos and lead.

Marie Curie died of cancer because she was exposed to some substance she was working with. She was a Noble prize winner.

Of course the causes aren't clear at this point in time, I know.

As to the warnings on labels...ok, maybe some people do read all the fine print. But do you alwasy do that, even when you buy Lysol Wipes or some bathroom cleaner? There are warnings on those too. Some people cant read well w/out glasses...some don't speak english...etc..what if a kid opens the cabinet and accidentaly inhales some or drinks some? It seems to me these potentially deadly substances are not well regulated!!!! The warnings should be much stronger, maybe a skull & bones, BIOHAZARD label on them.

Many people work around spray cans and use a mask for protection. If the can is clearly labeled than your Mom should have followed instructions.

It is not as clear what causes cancer as you assume. The warnings on the label are just meant to warn you about the risk . . there is no way to know if you will get cancer or not.

The truth is that no one really knows what causes the over 200 different types of cancer. At most people can only guess, because what seems to 'cause' cancer in one person does not 'cause' cancer in someone else. You need only look at smoking . . some people who do not smoke still get lung cancer, and some people who have smoked all their life never get lung cancer. Because no one really knows what will cause someone to develop cancer they put warnings on just about everything. Life it seems . . is the risk. Anyone, at any age, any health, race, sex, can develop cancer and almost no one knows why.

Can I say Chemical Valley, WV. I just mentioned this in another post. I lived in Huntington WV until about 6 months before I was diagnosed with aml. Lots of other ppl in the area are being diagnosed with all types of leukemia and other cancers (this is a huge area from Ashland Ky through Huntington WV to Charleston WV. This area is home to a huge number of chemical plants. Notably one of the top 10 'hit locations' during the cold war for these chemical plants and also one of the 'protected areas' on 9-11 due to these chemicals)

Cancer like anything else is not distributed evenly through the populations. " Clusters" can arise through pure chance.
