What are some possible causes for low white blood cell count in cats?

What are some possible causes for low white blood cell count in cats?
My cat had her yearly vaccinations and the blood work came back low white blood cell count. She's an INDOOR cat, always up to date on her shots, and has never been sick. My vet did blood work to check for leukemia, which came back negative. She has absolutely NO symptoms, hasn't lost any weight, and eats & drinks fine. She's 8 yrs old & spayed. After the first bloodwork, my vet put her on clavamox for 10 days which raised the count, but now that she's off clavamox, the count has fallen. Any info. or input?

You need to consult your vet for this. Most people on this site are amatuers.

You should consider seeing an internal medicine specialist. There are several forms of cancer that can cause a decrease in WBC, as well as FELV/FIV and sometimes FIP. Also Panleukopenia (feline distemper), which should be in the vaccine they give, but still a possibility. If your vet did only the in house FELV test, I would ask them to send it out to a lab, along with titers for the rest. You also need to be careful about exposing your cat to other ill cats, as she is immune compromised with a low WBC count.
Did they check her kidney and liver values as well? Chronic renal failure will sometimes show a low WBC count, and if her protein levels are high that could indicate certain diseases.

Possible causes of Leukopenia (low white blood cell count) are:
FIP (feline infectious peritonitis)
Panleukopenia (Feline Distemper)

It is possible that she has an early or mild case of Feline Leukemia, which can give a false negative with the ERISA test (as opposed to the IFA).

Other diseases that might cause that are FIV and FIP. FIP can develop in cats that have the Coronavirus, which may explain how she got it even though she is completely indoors.

Good luck
